The evolution of ideas and career choices

Personal Statement

November 28th, 2012

In 2011 I made the transition from web design & interactive development to teaching. In the Fall of 2011 I completed my Master of Science in Technology from the Arizona State Polytechnic campus and I am teaching Digital Design courses for both face-to-face and online courses. With the exceptional guidance of Dr. Laurie Ralston from the GIT department, I will be teaching 3 courses at the Polytechnic campus this Spring.

As I continue to seek to gain knowledge about instruction I completed a seminar on the Learning Studio online teaching platform. I was so impressed with the methods of content delivery that I spoke with Marc Van Horne, the Director of ASU Teach Online, and was encouraged by his enthusiasm for the MaryLou Fulton Program.

I spend a great deal of time defining course content, developing engaging lab modules and designing guidelines meant to promote and benefit a student’s understanding as they continue learning. At this stage in my career I want to learn more about the best methods and modes of instructional design and the certificate program sounds ideal. My goal is to improve my skills and understanding of instructional design so that I can educate students to learn, become confident and gain knowledge.
